Building a Stranger Things EDH Deck: When Your Wife Chooses the Chaos
Some time ago, a friend gave me a full Stranger Things Magic set. My first thought: “Cool… but what do I actually do with this?” I’m not usually one for Universes Beyond sets, and honestly, most of the cards were a little intimidating.
Then, inspiration struck—or maybe it was desperation. I handed the stack to my wife and said, “Build me a deck. Use some or all of these cards.”
Her answer? All of them. Every single one.
So what you’re looking at now is my Stranger Things deck—an EDH deck that isn’t just about winning, it’s about capturing the vibe of the show in cardboard form. Weird, chaotic, sometimes nonsensical, but unmistakably Stranger Things.
Here are a few highlights of her choices and why they fit the show perfectly:
- Trumpeting Gnarr – The loud, unpredictable chaos of the Upside Down itself. Every time this hits the board, you feel the tension rising.
- Othelm, Sigardian Outcast – The outsider who knows things nobody else does. Classic Hopper energy.
- Door to Nothingness – A literal portal to another dimension, a nod to the Upside Down’s creepy, existential horror.
- Snapdax, Apex of the Hunt – Think of this as the Demogorgon, stalking your opponents’ resources.
- Mythos of Snapdax – The creeping sense that something is just… wrong. Perfect for the show’s suspense.
Mechanically, the deck doesn’t play like a typical competitive EDH deck. There are some cards that are “standalone,” and some that feel like narrative easter eggs. But that’s the point: the story at the table is what matters here. It’s chaotic, fun, and perfectly themed for Stranger Things.
It’s honestly one of the most unique decks I’ve ever played, and I have to credit my wife for turning a pile of gift cards into something special. Every game feels like an episode, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
So if you’ve ever wondered what a Stranger Things EDH deck looks like… this is it. Chaos, narrative, and a few Demogorgons thrown in for good measure.
